ESSENTIAL
BOOKS
Best books and software that
I've used myself to learn how to design, produce and market my web site
and business. I've organized them as follows:
Before
You Start- use these books to set-up a plan and organize your content...all
of this will save you huge amounts of time in the long run. You might
also want to review my section on "Define
Your Site's Purpose and Content".
Building
a Web Site for Dummies - offers a high-level look at site design,
navigation and content planning and other essential topics. While some
HTML basics are covered, I would get a separate book on this. The nice
thing is that it includes trial versions of graphics design and web
site editing applications, such as Dreamweaver.
Planning
Your Internet Marketing Strategy- step-by-step on how to construct
a web sit e with primarily e-commerce and sales objectives.

About
Web Editing - to customize your web site, beyond what a freebie site
builder will do.
Dreamweaver
4 for Dummies - a great book for beginners who want the basics.
Book also includes CD with 30-day free trial versions of Dreamweaver,
Photoshop, Illustrator and other tools.
Software: Dreamweaver
4(PC), Dreamweaver
4(Mac)
FrontPage(r)
2002: A Beginner's Guide - the best guide
according to several web developers. However, I have to admit that I
don't use FrontPage nor GoLive (Mac alternative); Dreamweaver is my
choice.
Software: Microsoft
FrontPage 2002
HTML
4 for the World Wide Web: Visual...- by Elizabeth Castro, a great
author from the San Francisco Bay Area. Easy and brief descriptions,
aided by pictures of where the code goes and how it looks, makes this
book a great tutorial on HTML even for more advanced webmasters.
The
Complete Idiot's Guide to Adobe
Photoshop 6 - written by Robert Stanley, a self-taught artist. Photoshop
is a powerful application for designing most all of the graphics you'll
need for your website. However, it can be intimidating. This book focuses
on the fundamentals that beginner's will need to get started easily.
